Legal access
In Western Australia, most smoking cessation products, including therapeutic vaping products, can only be legally supplied through a pharmacy and only to people who hold a valid prescription.
Prescriptions can only be dispensed to adults aged 18+ who are attempting to quit smoking.
Why accessing your prescribed treatment can be difficult
Many people who obtain a therapeutic vaping prescription discover that sourcing the prescribed products can still be difficult, confusing and time-consuming.
Pharmacies may not stock the prescribed products in the exact strength or flavour, communication can be slow, and the process can become frustrating.
Devices are complicated.
There are lots of different types of vaping devices in the market. One supplier's product might not match with another supplier's device.
Parts can break or wear out. Coils can be over used and might cause injury.
Will your pharmacy or prescriber help you when your device malfunctions? We will.
Exact prescription matching
Pharmacists are prohibited from dispensing anything except exactly what has been prescribed.
Sometimes there is a mismatch between what your normal GP has prescribed and what your pharmacy can supply.
For example, they cannot legally dispense an 18mg/mL or 22mg/mL product for a prescription that specifies 20mg/mL.
